Financial Support for Studies of Three Children with Disability

“Every child with disability has the right to be educated sitting just next to a normal child in a regular school, not in a special one and after finishing education he/she should be considered as a candidate for an appropriate job for him/her”, said Md. Shah Alam, the headmaster of Golachipa Secondary school in a scholarship giving program arranged by the Bangladeshi Systems Change Advocacy Network (B-SCAN) in the Golachipa Secondary school premises on Thursday morning, 9 December, 2010. He also mentioned that, “ People with disabilities are capable enough to do well with success not only in education but also in every sector of life and they are not a burden to the society.” He mentioned about a student named Falguni Saha, a SSC candidatefor 2011 from his school, who lost her both wrist in a tragic accident when she was a student of class three. But, being motivated she didn’t give up her education but continued it and now going to sit for the SSC exam from Humanities group.



Among other invited guests, Abdur Rashid, Asst. Professor of Golachipa Degree College, Abul Kashem, Headmaster of Golachipa Model Govt. Primary School, several teachers from both schools and college, few honorable persons of the society and a few correspondents from different newspaper were present in the program. There was also a scholarship given to two brothers who has hearing impairment by birth. Shamimur Rahman (Shahin) is the elder among them who is a student of 1st year studying in Golachipa Degree College. He paseed SSC lastyear from Technical board with GPA 4.14. The younger one is Niaz Uddin (Bappi)who is a student of class 2 from Golachipa Model Govt. Primary School. Milon Hasan, executive member of B-SCAN and Nazirul Islam (Zico), volunteer member of B-SCAN went to Golachipa, Potuakhali to handover the check of scholarship.




Falguni is going to get 2000/- (Taka Two Thousand)per month from a B-SCAN member (who doesn’t want to disclose his/her name) where an organization named ‘’Bangladeshi Association’’ Toronto, Canada is giving Reena Haq Scholarship to the brothers where Shahin will get 2300/- (Taka TwoThousand Three Hundred) per month and Bappi will get 900/- (Taka Nine Hundred) primarily for 1 (One) year. Their scholarship will be extended based on their performances. Parents from both of the family were present in the program. Md. Shah Alam from Golachipa Secondary School and Md.Hasan Milon on behalf ofB-SCAN handed over the cheaque to the respective students in front of theaudience.

In a short speech Md.Hasan Milon informed the audience about the activities of B-SCAN for disabled people and previous experience working with different cases. He also informed the audience that B-SCAN is working for the rights of people with disability and helping many people to be self dependent. Parents from both family thanked B-SCAN for their support. To be mentioned here that, B-SCAN came to know about these two family from Golachipa by a report of Hanjala Shihab of Daily Naya Diganta.
